Barnes' introduction to the British reissue is included here, and to read it with this fact in hand, one can't help but feel satisfied at the thought that "sleeping" writers can indeed rise again.

Thanks to the personal details Barnes includes, Through The Window is as much a work of autobiography as his magnificent Nothing To Be Frightened Of from 2008.... Through The Window is one of the better collections of literary criticism you are likely to find.

Not every piece will connect with every reader, but Barnes is a fine literary companion.
