She needed money to pay her bills. He needed money to go with his buddies to Cancun. And $1,000 offered to participate in a week-long psych experiment was too hard to resist. And all they had to do was spend time with someone chosen by the psychologists to see analyze the reasons why you would have sex with a person.
They were first interviewed and asked for their perfect partner requests. Of course they got the complete opposite!! They are not each others first pick in looks and personality. But first impressions aren't always the best way to judge a person are they? As they spend more time together and follow the simple requests and instructions of the experiment they realize that they like each other a lot more than they expected.
But it will all come down to the end of that week. What will they decide? Are they going to have sex or not?
I really enjoyed this story. The characters seemed very real, and likeable, and even though this was a pretty quick read, it was definitely entertaining.
Another theme to "Gabriel's Inferno" is that every one of them is part of the human journey.
(moins)Gabriel Emerson is a professor who meets Julia Mitchell in his graduate Dante seminar. He can't understand why she inspires such strong reactions from him; he's not accustomed to the tenderness she inspires. Gabriel has a dark past, and he believes he is condemned to live alone and unforgiven.
In contrast, Julia is innocent and kind, though uncertain of her own strengths. She possesses the memory of a key moment in their past which transformed them. Gabriel doesn't realize his connection with Julia is rooted in his personal history. As their love deepens, that shared history truly becomes their destiny. Their journey is difficult, and often subject to doubts, secrets, and sorrow.
Sylvain Reynard skillfully draws compelling characters in a story of loss and hope. Gabriel remains a complicated, strong-willed protagonist; his edges are softened just enough to make him sympathetic. Julia's strength shines through so the reader understands why Gabriel loves her so wholly.
"Gabriel's Inferno" is a joy to read and a true accomplishment for Sylvain Reynard.
